Edward Lazzerini points out that “a semi-nomadic eas tern Kipchak people who settled eventually in the north-east of the penins ula\, the Nogays enriched Tatar vocabulary with respect to natural objects \, the concerns of daily life and certain forms of economic activity.” H e adds that these elements “were of limited though significant influence \, affecting the lexicon primarily and providing the literary language wit h an unusual array of synonyms”. As the Crimean Tatars are followers of Islam\, Arabic and Persian served to broaden the Crimean Tatar language.\n The Crimean Tatars in Crimea speak 3 Turkic languages. Their original lang uage is Kipchak Turkic (Kuman). In Southern Crimea due to the close contac ts between Istanbul and the Crimean Khanate\, it has a strong linguistical ly influence. As a result\, a mixed language Kipchak – Oguz Turkic appea rs.\nI can say about the Tatars in Bulgaria that they speak northern Crime an Tatar. Kipchak with little Oguz influence. That is why Crimean Tatars m ay understand all types of Turkic languages.\nIn the 19th century\, Ismail Bey Gaspirali/Ismail Gasprinski realised the need for reform in education for the Turco-Muslim peoples of tsarist Russia\, recognising the resoluti on of the language question as the first condition. Gaspirali wanted to cr eate a pure Turkic lexicon of Crimean Tatar and simplify its syntax. Follo wing these changes\, he tried to modify the Arabic script by including vow el symbols and eliminating redundant letters as well as introducing punctu ation. In 1883 Gaspirali\, whose dream was “unity in thought\, unity in language\, unity in action”\, founded the newspaper Tercuman/Perevodchik \, which lasted until 1918.
